Our spring breeding season closed with some successes and some disappointments. We successfully supplied the University of Florida with 18 does to produce excrement for their huge ecology project. We are so honored to have been selected for this undertaking, and we are indescribably grateful that we have been able to meet and exceed their expectations for healthy, even tempered animals (one noteable exception aside, which we bought from another farm). Our contact, Marina, had this to say, "All bunnies are well and safe after their first night! They were so easy to unload and place in their pens, thanks for doing such an amazing job handling them!"
Thank you, Marina, for the resounding praise, and for your permission to share these words with others who may be considering our farm for their next purchase. The following image shows some of the UF Project Does as they headed off to their new lodgings. Please note that the cages you see are for transportation purposes only. They are very small to prevent injury to the rabbits from being jostled around in transit, and they are not remotely adequate for general housing purposes.
Unfortunately, we have determined that our incredibly well bred Rex doe, Penny, is infertile. We suspect this is relevant to a feed issue, but it went on long enough that she is unlikely to ever produce any litters. This means our Rex breeding program is on hold for the time being while we seek out replacement brood stock. While we are disappointed to have to do things this way, we hope to produce top quality animals for our program and for our buyers. As frustrating as it is, that sometimes means we have to start fresh and be patient. We are in touch with several breeders at this time, and we will update the website and social media pages as soon as we have more information.
In better news, we have four keepers from Dora and Waffles to grow out for breeding in the fall. You can get to know more about Rivenzale's Angel, Rivenzale's Cocoa Puffs, Rivenzale's Greta Next Adventure, and Rivenzale's Snow on their respective pages using the links above. We have also updated our planned litters section to reflect their place in the future of our breeding program. Dora and Waffles are both officially retired, and will stay with us here on the farm as they have more than earned their place.
